To: All SOM Faculty and Staff
Dear Colleagues,
Earlier today, all university staff received an email from President Fenves outlining expectations for returning to campus in the fall. (We are sharing this update now with both our faculty and staff to ensure shared understanding.) We share the President’s excitement about seeing Emory transform back into a vibrant and thriving community.
We know there are many questions about how and when our School of Medicine will return. We do not have all the answers yet, but we will be working with departmental and unit leaders to plan for our future work and will initiate regular communications to keep you updated.
Emory’s leadership has always made the health and safety of our community its top priority and will continue to ensure that our campus is a safe place to work and learn. You can do your part! When you are able to schedule your COVID-19 vaccine, we strongly encourage you to do so. This is key for all of us to get to the other side of this pandemic and to begin a safe return.
Thank you for all that you do for our patients, our learners and each other.

Planning SOM Future Work model
Over the next 30-90 days we will be developing the School of Medicine’s Workplace Flexibility Policy, and engaging with you and your leaders to develop more detailed plans for our future work (work from home, work on campus and hybrid work model). We will work closely with our department leaders to ensure a thoughtful planning process that supports employees while also meeting the needs of our patients and our students. We also will work to maintain efficiencies and incorporate lessons learned over the past year. More information about our implementation plan, including specific timelines, will be shared by the end of June.Training and resources
Over the coming months, Emory University HR will make available training and resources to assist both employees and supervisors with return to campus workplace dynamics. We will share more details as they become available.Important dates
- By April 30: SOM Workplace Flexibility Policy will be shared.
- By June 30: Details about our future work plan will be communicated.
- June: Training and resources will be available to employees and supervisors.
