The Marcus Trauma Center is a 15-bed, state-of-the-art trauma resuscitation area inside the Emergency Department. The unit has seven major resuscitation rooms, eight moderate/minor trauma rooms, a self-contained digital radiology suite and reading room, two conference rooms, and on-call rooms.
The Grady ECC is closely linked to Metro Atlanta’s Premier Level 1 Trauma Center, the Marcus Stroke and Neurosciences Center; the state’s 100,000 call Poison Center, one of only two Burn Centers in the State of Georgia; and the City of Atlanta’s 911 Emergency Medical Service. The Emergency Department at Grady acts as the Regional Coordinating Hospital in the event of a disaster.

- The ECC is the region’s premier Level 1 Trauma Center, one of only two Verified Burn Centers in Georgia, and provides ambulance services for several counties.
- Also housed inside the ECC is the Clinical Decision Unit (CDU), a comprehensive protocol-based 20-bed observation unit.
- Adjacent to the ECC is the Urgent Care Center, which addresses patients with low-acuity concerns ranging from medical refill to upper respiratory infection.
- Our nation’s growing opioid crisis has also widened ECC’s clinical services in the community. Grady secured additional state and national funds to expand our Medical Toxicology Section, providing bedside consultations and phone calls annually through Georgia’s only Poison Control Center.
- The Emergency Department remains a critical arm to serve the healthcare needs of Georgia’s underserved populations and truly serves as the “front door” for the Grady Health System.
- Our goal is to be the leading the public, academic emergency department in the country. This requires continually evolving changes to clinical staffing plans, care protocols, and electronic workflows to ensure quality patient care.
- Looking ahead, our leaders are developing strategies that emphasize clinical engagement and excellence through the following initiatives:
- Continuous Operational Improvement and Performance
- Dedication to Provider Wellness
- Clinical and Operational Accountability
