To: all SOM Faculty, Department Chairs and Department Administrators
The School of Medicine has established a process to identify all undergraduates doing research in SOM (whether remote or on campus), and a committee to review requests to return Emory College of Arts and Sciences undergraduates to SOM research activities on a case-by-case basis.
Only individuals that align with the criteria outlined below will be considered for approval. SOM will revisit this guidance periodically in collaboration with University partners. Our guidance aligns with the university’s return to campus guidance.
Criteria
An undergraduate student registered for Emory Course: XXXX 495A/B (Honors Research for Credit) or Georgia Tech Courses: XXXX2699 or XXXX4699 (with XXXX as the department) may be allowed to return to research activities if one or more of the following criteria are applicable:
- Research activities can be performed by the student remotely
- Student is actively continuing/completing an education milestone/independent research project for credit
- Student is advanced in a specific project and working independently
- Student does not require substantial new training that would violate social distancing requirements
- The PI has adequate space in their laboratory to accommodate the presence of the student under current space requirements
