2022 National Doctors' Day

Join us in celebrating our Doctors’ Day featured faculty on social media by using the hashtags #EmoryDoctorsDay2022 and #EmoryMed

In recognition of Doctors' Day, the Emory School of Medicine Recognitions Committee sent out a call for nominations for doctors across the School of Medicine who go above and beyond. More than 184 Emory faculty members were nominated by their peers and colleagues for their dedication to improving the health and well-being of our patients and community through the care they provide, the research they conduct and their efforts to teach and inspire learners.

The committee reviewed each nomination and selected those who exemplify the outstanding faculty of the Emory School of Medicine. The quotes below were taken from the nomination materials.

Department of Medicine Nader Aboujamous Emory Saint Joseph's Hospital

Dr. Aboujamous is a recent addition to our team at ESJH, however, in this very short period of time, he has already demonstrated what an excellent clinician and human being he is, his patients absolutely love him!

Every time I inherit a patient from him, I always hear only positive input about him, his patients always remember his name even after he is off clinical duty.

Dr. Aboujamous truly goes above and beyond to care for his patients, he is deeply devoted to not only his patients but also our ESJH Physician family and is always the first one to jump in when anybody in the group needs help! We are very lucky to have him on our team!!

This physician goes above and beyond for patients he sees at Grady. For example, he has brought clothing to a particular person who needed it, he goes to see patients in other parts of the hospital to see how they or their family is doing after being admitted from the ED. He has picked up food for a patient who needed a special diet.

He is a mentor to faculty, fellows, residents and medical students at Emory and has always helped Morehouse School of Medicine students interested in Emergency Medicine.

He has gone out of his way to assist former employees of Grady who are now patients at Grady in any way he can.

Dr. Chandrasekaran has been instrumental in establishing our new Perinatal Center at Emory Decatur Hospital. One of two full-time faculty at EDH, Dr. Chandrasekaran is responsible for much of the consults and ultrasound services.

In her relatively short time on our faculty, Dr. Chandrasekaran has gotten involved with quality improvement committees both within and external to our department, including some leadership roles. Dr. Chandrasekaran has worked to identify improvements to the billing process at EDH.

She has been involved in protocol development and standardization of care at EDH that is consistent with other hospitals within the Emory Healthcare system.

Dr. Chaudhari is a true example of the SOM mission by providing the most complete and current clinical care to patients in their time of greatest need in the Intensive Care Unit at EDH.

Dr. Chaudhari is a champion of teamwork and having integrity by always teaching colleagues at all levels to be the best caregivers and providers of patients.

He has been an incredible resource for our group as our local COVID expert. He is always available to help us all stay on top of recent updates in COVID management.

He has been the primary physician running the COVID stepdown unit at EUH, helping open vital ICU beds for patients with COVID.

Dr. Hailstorks is a significant contributor to not only her home division of Complex Family Planning, where she provides family planning services at Emory Healthcare and some community locations around the city, but also to the Obstetrics service and the Gynecology service at Grady Memorial Hospital, where she participates regularly. She is an all-around team player and a master of balancing the push and pull of these different services. In short, she works hard to care for the under served people of Atlanta, in a variety of settings.

She is establishing her reputation in the area of social and restorative justice on the local, regional and national level. Beyond providing important clinical care to some of the the most vulnerable populations, Dr. Hailstorks is also an important advocate for the rights of these people. She is involved on a number of important committees and groups, some of which she is an elected member. She is a patient advocate and an ambassador for Emory in these important platforms.

He is a tremendous partner — he is an expert on some techniques related to limb salvage — and his answer is always a cheerful “of course” when one of us asks him for help.

He manages some extremely complex patients that require multidisciplinary care coordination. He and his team do this with such ease that the patients and their families tremendously benefit

According to the APP teams, he spends a ton of time with his patients — educating them thoroughly on their complex injuries. In addition, as our only Spanish-speaking ortho trauma surgeon, this benefits a large group of Spanish-speaking only patients.

I have witnessed first-hand the leadership and direction he has provided to the ACT staff and individual patients.

Many times, she has delivered difficult messages and updates to families and patients, all while providing a calming and compassionate presence. She takes the time to listen, understand, and research each patient as an individual. She has called countless families to answer questions and to provide support to them post discharge.

Dr. Wongtrakool has recently taken over as Section Chief of Pulmonary and Critical Care at the VA. In this leadership role, she has spent an inordinate amount of time trying to improve the quality of patient care in the pulmonary and home oxygen clinics and in the MICU. These efforts have included patient safety protocols, patient visits and scheduling improvements, and coordination of care with other specialty care services. Her work has been transformative for veterans.

Dr. Wongtrakool doesn’t let her administrative duties get in the way of providing excellent patient care. She attends in the ICU and on the inpatient and outpatient pulmonary services far more than she needs to. When she is attending in the ICU, she is always the last person to leave the hospital (most times after 9 or 10pm!) where she is attending to the critical care needs of all our veterans and their families. She is an inspiration to residents and all her colleagues as a compassionate and caring physician.

Dr. Zeidan teaches both in the School of Medicine and the School of Public Health. Her teaching is enthusiastic and inspiring. It directly impacts the care provided by her trainees.

Jenni is extremely dedicated and will do anything necessary for her patients and for Emory, as well as for her students and staff.

She will never say no, and doesn't really understand when others may, as it's foreign to her desire to help whenever she can.

She contributes not only by her exceptional care, but through her leadership the Medical Director of Seavey Clinic General Internal Medicine Clinic, but as the Assistant Director of Innovations and Operations.
