Course Overview
The School of Medicine is pleased to offer a five-month career development course designed especially for junior faculty. Featuring diverse speakers selected from across Emory University, this course will present information necessary for success in an academic medical center using a variety of formats including didactic presentations, group and individual exercises, and case-based problem-solving.
Topics
The Junior Faculty Development Course features sessions on the Business of Academics, Human Resources, Crucial Conversations, Presentation and Speaking Skills, Promotions, Teaching Skills, Manuscript and Grant Writing, Negotiations, Ethics, and Leadership.
Time Commitment and Structure
The course encompasses eleven sessions to be held two-three times a month from January to May, 2023. Sessions will meet on Thursday evenings, with one on Tuesday, for 3 or 3.5 hours beginning at 5:30 PM. Classes will be held in person in the School of Medicine building.
Faculty accepted into the program are expected to attend all sessions. Participation in the course may also require additional time to complete any course-related work such as a self-assessment and/or pre-work. 2023 course dates:

Eligibility
All instructors and assistant professors in the School of Medicine.
Program Cost
The cost for each participant is $200 due upon acceptance into the course. The registration fee may be paid by the individual or department.
How to Apply
The application period for the 2023 course has closed.
All interested candidates must submit an application form and CV. The application form consists of four parts:
- Candidate information
- Candidate statement of interest
- Candidate CV (we strongly prefer CVs in the official EUSOM template)
- Supporting leader information
Once the above steps are completed, the indicated leader will receive an automated request to complete the leader support form. The support form includes a commitment to providing time away for participation and an optional statement of support.
There is no limit to the number of nominations from a department, but final selections will be made to ensure diverse representation across the School of Medicine and will be limited to 25-30 individuals.

Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. To receive credit participants must sign in on-site.
