Grady Health System Selected as Strategically-Focused Research Networks for the American Heart Association (AMA)
Modele Ogunniyi (medicine) is leading the work at Grady after its selection as one of the funded strategically-focused research networks of the AMA. Researchers from University of Pennsylvania, Emory University, Grady Health Systems, and MedStar Washington Hospital Center are collaborating to use behavioral health science to improve clinical trial participation among diverse groups.
Lisa Flowers Receives Georgia CORE Grant
Lisa Flowers (gynecology and obstetrics) received a Collaborative Cancer Research Seed Grant from Georgia CORE. The grant will fund a clinical trial titled, "Phase 1 Dose Escalation Study of the Use of ACU-D1, a Topical Proteasome Inhibitor in HPV associated Vulvar and Perianal Lesion in People with HIV."
Tracey Henry Appointed New ACP National Chair of the Council of Early Physicians
Tracey Henry (medicine) is the new chair of the Council of Early Physicians for the American College of Physicians. Henry will serve a one-year term where she oversees over 26,000 early career internal medicine physicians. She will also serve on ACPS's Board of Regents.
Jason Schneider Receives AMA Excellence in LGBTQ Health Award
Jason Schneider (medicine) received the American Medical Association's Excellence in LGBTQ Health Award. This ward honors physicians, residents/fellows, and final-year medical students that have demonstrated outstanding work, innovation, and leadership in LGBTQ policy, advocacy, patient care, academics (teaching and research), workforce diversity, and/or health care administration.
Health Equity Advocacy Course
Deadline to apply: July 20
The Health Advocacy Course is a 5-month multi-pronged educational intervention that will bring together faculty, learners, and community members from several institutions to advocate around common health related priorities. This innovative course will go well beyond didactic instruction and include experiential learning that will leverage collaboration and, importantly, have tangible outcomes as a result. Participants will learn while doing.

This event celebrates the accomplishments of the 2020 and 2021 graduating cohorts of the URiM faculty leadership and development program. Graduates cite the community, connection, and mentorship from this program as instrumental in their subsequent success. Congratulations POCUS Course Participants
Twenty participants were selected for our inaugural point-of-care ultrasound course. This course included participants from multiple departments across the School of Medicine and built a community of faculty with improved POCUS skills. Congratulations all!
